Government Officials in the Private Sector
By J. Di Matteo

Government elected officials are working in the private sector whilst collecting their government pay cheques at a substantial cost to the tax payer.

Because of our fantastic ability to obscure the truth from ourselves and simply turn a blind eye to corruption and hypocrisy, arrogance and ignorance has been made the main point of call for many of our elected officials and executive employees within the federal, state and local governments.

As a society, we have been cleverly dumbed down over the past two decades, particularly with the rise of social media and the need to be recognised. The poison of smartphones have trickled so far that it now effects our own children, even at such young ages.

What is the result of this? Dumbed down, fabricated beliefs of the world, and a robotic way of functioning in society, not knowing 'why' we do what we do, just the fact that we do as we are told.

Like an illusionist, or magician, these officials force the audience to look at one hand as they work their tricks on the other. This is what they have done to us, and just like the fools we are, we have fallen for their tricks.

The system that they have built is heavy in favour of them. Them being the ones who sit in upper management in all three levels of government. They have manipulated the system so much that they have even convinced thousands of local residents of the Australian communities to come out and work for free to keep them in power. These residents walk the streets door knocking and working the marketing campaigns at the tolling booths on election day, all without one dollar of pay for their efforts.

What do these elected officials do once they are in power? Of course they must adhere to some of the concerns to the community (anything for a photo op), and, like a megaphone, they make damn well sure they let the world know of their "work" in the communities by posting on social media. But once they are in power, they do everything they can to stay in power.

They are given a hefty salary on average of $146,000 a year, and this doesn't include all of the perks that go with the job such as health insurance, vehicle usage, mobile phones, laptops, seemingly endless travel expenses etc. Oh yes, and let's not forget that high paying pension that never ceases to exhaust until their death beds.

From there they have influence, and many of them abuse the hell out of their influence. How do they do this? By aligning themselves with donors and special interest groups. I mean, how do you think they manage to stay in power for long periods of time? Staying in power is all about good marketing, and when you have large amounts of money thrown at you from donors and special interest groups, then you can run a very strong campaign to ensure your seat at the next election.

But what then? You're still on that mediocre salary of $150k per year. Well its time to put those contacts to good use. Many elected officials sit on the board of private companies. Now, this may be completely legal for them to do so, but is it fair? I mean, how is it possible that they have the time to sit on these board of directors in private companies and give their valuable time and work ethic to the private sector when we are the ones fronting their government salaries to do what is best for us?

Think for a moment on this. Put yourself in the shoes of a person with this mindset. Imagine you were working for a company as a sales representative. You were full time and you were paid a salary as such, based on a full weeks work of 40 hours. But halfway through the day, you decide to clock off at midday in one company and go and work for another company in a different sector in the same role for the other half of the day. Do think both company owners would be happy with this? They are both paying you a salary for full time work based on a 40 hour week, which essentially means you need to be working at least 80 hours a week to justify that salary. Given the agreed hours of operation are 9am - 5pm, this would be literally impossible right?

But yet, these government officials are doing the same thing, except they are not just being paid a salary or equity share from the private company they are representing, they are also receiving a full time salary base on full time hours from US the people, the taxpayers!

Many of them work in compliance companies such as healthcare compliance, which is a dangerous scenario for anyone who owns a private practice in the field of health, such as a day surgery or dental practice. Because these officials who sit on the board of directors for these compliance accrediting companies can push legislation to be approved for mandates of accreditation required for each practice.

The more mandates, the more accreditation required, and naturally, the more accreditations, the more profit for the compliance accreditation company where the elected officials or government employees sit, which means more money in their pockets, more dividends, more equity growth on their share of the business.

This type of behaviour runs ramped across ANZ, and indeed across the globe, however we need to put a stop to this now! Complaining about issues such as these does very little to suede these people from ceasing their duties within the private sectors. We need to speak to them in the only language they understand. We need to tell them that if they do not cease association with these private sector companies, and they don't start working hard for the money we pay them then we will vote them out come next election.

Only then will we have their attention. The method to stop this ignorant hypocritical government behaviour is to always hold their feet to the fire. If we do not stay vigilant with these government officials and executives then we will always get bad government in this country. If we hold their feet to the fire then we will get better government. It's that simple.
